Julie McCullough is a failed Minimalist, who has always collected tattered objects from different eras, curbside, dumpsters, thrift stores, estate sales, and quite a bit of family / historical inheritance (and we don't mean the paper kind), who always felt a bit scattered in her decor aesthetic. After years of attempting to control her collections and fit into other designers niches, she finally decided it better to create and embrace her knack for creating spaces that might be considered maximalist, but were full of stories and history of her roots, a family deeply rooted in Makers and Craftsmanship. Sans Nouveau perfectly describes this style of design and curation, using mostly pieces that have had previous lives with a patina of character and layers of emotion, using "nothing new or without new". While it is not the only force behind McCullough's design aesthetic, it certainly isn't one to be overlooked, and that is the earth conscious, waste not, be-mine forever mentality of designing and re-imagining uses for old things.
Creating a space that celebrates pieces of history, your family legacy, makers and craftsmanship, with imperfections and patina and no particular trending color scheme. This timeless theory brings together all the pieces that make you, to thoughtfully curate your space with stories of a faded era, family we never knew, pieces we discover through travel, and things we collect, without reason. We want to help you create a home, without new, using and building on pieces you have, as well as creating your story in design.
McCullough, also Co-Founder of the acclaimed Harkensback, in Oak Cliff, will add collections of Wallpaper, Textiles, Table Top, and Decor to their new location this Spring. Be sure to follow both Us and Harkensback to be the first to know!
